As a bit of a restless expat, translation and writing haven’t initially counted among my passions. Having previously lived, worked and studied in eight countries on three continents, I have made my way through academic research and teaching English before serendipitously finding LEXIKA in 2020 and joining the team. Over the last couple of years, I have gotten a few original publications and a range of translation projects under my belt, constantly striving to learn something new and improve. Currently split between writing, translating and a product research gig for a US tech startup, I am a true jack of all trades, master of none.
I’ve been working in the language industry since 2016, primarily teaching Slovak and English while working on my Translation/Interpreting and Philosophy degree at MBU in Banská Bystrica. I’ve started as a freelance translator in early 2021. After gaining some experience in the field, I started working with LEXIKA as a part of the Mentoring Programme. Taking my first steps as a translator with LEXIKA reinforced my decision to fully dedicate myself to languages. I’m currently working on adding Spanish to my repertoire. My next steps are focused on improving my knowledge of markup and programming languages since technical competence is always desperately needed in the translation industry.
I started working at LEXIKA in 2017, shortly after getting a degree in translation and interpreting. I was overjoyed to be able to work in the field in which I majored. I work as a project manager and oversee the processing of projects, such as specialised (uncertified) translations, interpreting projects, and other related services. A pleasant and friendly atmosphere prevails in LEXIKA and while working, I learn a lot about the world of translation and interpreting, and it also helps me to grow as a person. (2020 Update: After more than two years, I decided to return to my home town, but I will always keep fond memories of LEXIKA and look forward to paying them a visit. I am happy and grateful that I could be part of the LEXIKA team.)
I started working as a copywriter at Lexika in 2021. However, online marketing, blogging and writing texts have been my domain for over five years. I love foreign languages and mostly work with English. I learned to like it when I was a kid because I used to live in England during elementary school for almost a year. I enjoy diving deep into foreign nationalities and cultures.
Languages have been part of my life since I moved to Vienna with my family as a little girl. This journey made me realize I wanted to study translation, but I was longing to return home to Slovakia. By a lucky chance I was offered to work at a translation company – albeit not as a translator :). Since 2011, I have worked at different positions at LEXIKA, I began working at front desk, later as a project manager and after two years of maternity leave, I took up the newly created position of vendor manager. We went on to shape and improve this position and today it works perfectly and is an irreplaceable part of LEXIKA. Together with Simona we make sure that we have experienced translators available – we address new ones and maintain good relationships with our long-serving translators. In addition to my usual duties, I am also in charge of student programmes.
We understand that when people communicate better, everything runs more smoothly, so we’ve made it our mission to help you get the best out of your business.
I began working at LEXIKA as a university student in 2006. Back then e-mail communication was teething and the fax was a common means of communication. The familial atmosphere has grown on me and I took a liking to LEXIKA. I spent several years working at the front desk overseeing certified translations. I later became a project manager. Currently, I take care of specialized translations, interpreting projects, and other language services. I have been working in our fantastic team for the longest period of time. Moreover, I take care of training new employees and creating our internal documentation to keep track of our activity for everyone. ?
The profession attracted my attention for the first time after reading an interview with the translator of Harry Potter when I was only ten years old. Naturally, back then I had no idea I would become a translator myself one day. But as the years went by, I actually took up studying translation and interpreting. As a student, I worked at LEXIKA as an assistant project manager and later did a translation internship during which I had the opportunity to collaborate with a professional translation company and experienced translators. Moreover, I did a translation internship at the European Commission Representation in Bratislava which offered me the chance to experience translating for the EU. After graduating, I began working full-time at LEXIKA as an internal reviser/translator.
I began my career at LEXIKA in 2016 as an assistant project manager and with some breaks in between, which I took to practice foreign languages and work in the U.S. and Italy, I finally got a translation and interpreting degree with a major in English and Italian. Later on, I moved to the position of a project manager. I had been translating more actively since 2014, but currently I have no time for it and I rather grab a well translated book (or the original version). My background allows me to process and oversee projects in detail and to respond to unusual requests coming from our clients. I enjoy speaking with translators about/on different “language” levels.
I joined the Lexika team in 2021. That year represents changes and dreams finally coming true for me. One of those dreams was to find a job in my field of study, which is translation and interpreting. I studied French together with Arabic, but when someone asks what motivated that decision, I just shrug my shoulders and say I have no idea. Perhaps it was intuition. One of my favourite pastimes is writing, and I’m glad I get to mix business with pleasure at Lexika. My goal is to gain experience and perfect my skills so that one day I can tell myself I’ve become a part of the translator community and it won’t feel surreal.
I began my internship at LEXIKA in 2020. As I am wrapping up my translation and interpreting degree, I am overjoyed to have the possibility to translate and work with professionals in the industry even before I finish my studies. My responsibilities here are fairly simple: translate, learn, and translate some more.
After graduating, I did not have a clear idea of what to do next. But what I knew was that I wanted to go to work with a smile on my face and do something that would make me happy. All my job expectations were met after joining LEXIKA in 2016. I work as a project manager and my day-to-day duties include overseeing specialized translations, interpreting projects, and occasionally even certified translations. I am constantly in touch with our translators, our clients, and other translation companies thanks to which my work is always dynamic and interesting.
I began my journey at LEXIKA during my university days in 2017. LEXIKA, the people that form part of it, and the translation industry have grown on me since then. One of the day-to-day challenges I have to face is finding new talented translators. Furthermore, I take care of developing good and open relationships with our long-standing translators who make it possible for us to do what we love. Over time, I was put in charge of marketing activities and internal HR. I don’t have to worry about my job turning into a daily grind and I learn something new every day. :)
I began working at LEXIKA as a recent graduate in translation and interpreting studies. At university I took a class in which we simulated a translation project thanks to which my vision for the future was clear – I wanted to work at a translation company after graduating. I am happy to have landed a job at LEXIKA where I have been working since then :). I primarily oversee translation projects and communicate with our clients and translators. Sometimes I contribute to our internal documentation and since I am a certified memoQ trainer, I am in charge of our CAT tools and together with my colleagues I organize memoQ training courses for beginning and advanced translators.
I began working at LEXIKA in 2020 while studying translation and interpreting, with the catalyst for all these decisions being my love for the English language. Looking to translators one, my goal in LEXIKA is to get hands-on experience and further develop my skills. I am particularly passionate about American English and American literature and culture, which might be reflected in my blog posts.
